Rehome a Withdrawn Assistance Dog

From time to time, dogs in our training program are withdrawn from continuing their journey as assistance dogs. While they may not go on to a working role, these dogs still have a lot to offer — they’re friendly, well-socialised, and have received a great foundation in training and care.

We’re now looking for pet homes where these beautiful dogs can enjoy a relaxed life as part of a loving home.

What Is a Withdrawn Dog?

Withdrawn dogs have spent time in our assistance dog training program but will not be placed in a working role. This could be due to:

  • A manageable health condition that prevents long-term recipient placement
  • A preference for a slower-paced home life rather than ongoing training demands
  • A change in direction that means the dog is best suited to living as a pet

These dogs have typically experienced home life with volunteers, outings in dog-friendly public places, and basic obedience training using positive methods. While they are not trained or suitable for public access as assistance dogs, they make wonderful pets for the right home

Rehoming Fee

The rehoming fee is $2,500.

This helps cover the significant investment made in each dog’s care and training and supports our ability to continue providing life-changing assistance dogs to people in need.

The rehoming fee includes:

  • Core vaccinations
  • Desexing and microchipping
  • Basic obedience training
  • Familiarisation with home environments and dog-friendly settings
  • A take-home pack (where available)

What We Look for in a Home

We’re seeking caring, responsible homes where these dogs can continue to thrive. Suitable applicants will:

  • Provide a safe and secure home environment
  • Have time for daily care, walks, and enrichment
  • Be happy to welcome a dog into the family
  • Be able to support any minor ongoing needs (if relevant – this will be discussed openly)
