CONNECTIONS PROGRAM

The Connections Program: A Partnership for Change

In early 2025, Assistance Dogs Australia collaboratively partnered with Happy Paws Happy Hearts to develop the Connections Program.

This program utilises Assistance Dogs Australia dogs in Happy Paws Happy Hearts programs whereby together we create a social inclusion hub for engagement and connection, reducing social isolation and broadening the impact of dogs for individuals with disabilities.

About the Connections Program

By leveraging the strengths of both organisations, The Connections Program provides a sustainable, dual-impact solution that directly addresses barriers faced by people with disabilities while enhancing and providing the opportunity to develop and socialise Assistance Dogs Australia puppies as part of their training to become Assistance Dogs.

The Connections Program aims to support participants on their journey of change from social isolation to social inclusion and wellbeing. Building from this, a sense of greater independence, increased connections, confidence and hope for the future, often culminating in volunteering, education, and/or employment.

An Inclusive Pathway to Confidence and Community

Hosted at Assistance Dogs Australia’s innovative Puppy Kindergarten in Waterfall, NSW, this program integrates Assistance Dogs Australia’s expertise in training Assistance Dogs with Happy Paws Happy Heart’s proven success in delivering inclusive group-based programs for socially isolated Australians.

Together we collaborate to deliver the program over 12-week sessions, where participants will gain hands-on experience training assistance puppies at Assistance Dogs Australia’s innovative puppy kindergarten, while gaining transferable and social skills for improved social inclusion, education and employment pathways. The program benefits both participants and puppies. For more information, get in touch with our friendly team.

Why your support matters

We rely on donations to continue our work. With demand higher than ever, some people wait up to two years for a dog.

Your support helps us:

  • Place Assistance Dogs with people with disabilities – free of charge.
  • Provide a lifetime of support.
  • Maintain the highest standards of training.

Together, we can change lives – one dog at a time.
