Puppy Sitting- more info
Puppy sitting is looking after one of our pups when their raiser is on holiday or unable to care for the dog for a short period of time.
If you are considering puppy raising but are still a little unsure this is a great way to see if puppy raising is right for you.
As a puppy sitter you will have all the responsibilities of a puppy raiser but just for the time you are looking after the puppy.
You would be expected to:
- Attend an introductory course
- Follow the guidelines and training methods set by Assistance Dogs Australia
- Attend any puppy classes on whilst they are in your care. (To begin with puppy classes are weekly but gradually reduced to fortnightly as the puppy becomes more advanced in its training).
- Attend any pre-booked veterinary appointments
- Keep training and behaviour notes
- Keep the puppy inside your home
- Socialise your puppy and take him or her with you on outings (when possible) and ensure he or she is always wearing their Assistance Dogs cape
- Attend occasional events and activities to help support and promote Assistance Dogs Australia
In turn Assistance Dogs Australia will
- Provide you with full support- as and when you need it
- Provide full training and regular trainer feedback
- Pay for all major expenses
