Puppy Raising

Could you raise a puppy in your home for up to 16 months to help give someone a better quality of life?

Assistance Dogs Australia would support you fully throughout the 16 months, and don’t worry:

  • We’ll teach you everything you need to know and offer 24/7 support
  • Short holidays are not an issue, another committed volunteer will look after your pup
  • We cover all major expenses, i.e., food, vet bills, heartworm & flea control
  • You’ll enjoy being involved in a group of volunteers and learn dog training skills

To be eligible for consideration as a puppy raiser we require you to not be working full time, have no children under school age, have a suitable secure yard, you attend puppy classes and be willing to have an inside dog.

Puppy Sitting

Puppy sitters are required for short term care. Puppy sitters look after our Assistance Dogs in training when the puppy raisers go on holiday or are, for whatever reason, unable to look after the pup for a short period of time. Puppy sitters are called upon as needed and may be required for a weekend, week or a month!

  • Full training is given
  • All major expenses paid, i.e., food, vet bills, heartworm & flea control
  • Enjoy being involved in a group of volunteers and learn dog training skills

To be eligible for consideration as a Puppy Sitter we ideally require you to not be working full time, have no children under school age, have a suitable secure yard, you attend puppy classes and be willing to have an inside dog.

Puppy Socialising

From time to time we also require puppy socialisers- experienced dog carers that can care for a puppy in the home for the first 4-8 weeks of its training.

  • All major expenses are paid, i.e., food, vet bills, heartworm & flea control
  • Enjoy being involved in a group of volunteers and learn dog training skills
  • Weekly training classes are mandatory

Assistance Dogs Australia is particularly looking for Puppy Socialisers in the Sutherland Shire or surrounding areas (you would need to be willing to travel to the Sutherland Shire for weekly training classes) as well as in the Brisbane area (you would need to be willing to travel to the Western Suburbs for weekly training classes).

To be eligible for consideration as a puppy socialiser we require that there be someone home most of the day, have no children under school age, have a suitable secure yard, be willing to have an inside dog, you attend puppy classes, have experience/understanding of dog behaviour.

Bed and Breakfast

Do you want to look after a dog but could only do so on a short term basis, or do you work full time, then why not help out with our bed and breakfast program? Our older super pups work very hard in the week going to school everyday, so it’s only fair that they get some R&R on the weekend just like we do!

Could you pick up a Pup on Friday evening or Saturday morning from the Sutherland Shire area and keep him or her for the weekend?

  • All major expenses paid, i.e., food, vet bills, heartworm & flea control
  • Enjoy being involved in a group of volunteers and learn dog training skills
  • Attendance to an Assistance Dogs introduction course is essential

To be eligible for consideration for our Bed and Breakfast program we require that there be someone home during the day, or able to take the pup with them, over the weekend, have no children under three years old, have a suitable secure yard and be willing to have an inside dog.
