Puppy Cuddles Needed in Melbourne
Move over Flipper the dolphin, Flipper the doggy is ready to steal the hearts of Victorians, while training to give freedom and independence to people with physical disabilities.
Proudly sponsored by the Shane Warne Foundation, Flipper is Assistance Dogs Australia’s newest puppy in training and he’s sniffing out puppy raisers, puppy socialisers and puppy sitters in the Melbourne area.
Nothing is impossible for an Assistance puppy in training. Puppy raisers will be able to train pups like Flipper to catch public transport, pay the cashier or open and close doors. Help them learn to retrieve all manner of objects, cross the road safely and even press buttons at pedestrian crossings.
The best part is that these puppies are allowed to go everywhere with you – so why not have a training session at the local supermarket, a café or take a quiet companion to the cinema? Because it is all these experiences that will help pups like Flipper prepare for their future role as an Assistance Dog.
While he looks like your average puppy cute, cuddly and full of life in two years time, with your help, Flipper will undertake tasks that are difficult if not impossible for someone in a wheelchair to achieve.
Puppy raisers train these puppies for up to 18 months, socialisers for four weeks, while puppy sitters ‘baby sit’ puppies while raisers are on holidays etc. To take on any of these roles you must have a secure yard and be willing to keep the dog inside. To take on raising or socialising you must not be working full time and must not have children under school age.
