Assistance Dogs Australia visits Cronulla Pre-School

Kids enjoying their K9 visitors

The cute and cuddly puppies from Assistance Dogs Australia took their training to new heights the other week, visiting the kids at Cronulla Pre-School.

Three pups in training, Ziggy, Tiggy and Wanda participated in a demonstration at the pre-school, giving the children a taste of how these future service dogs will help people in wheelchairs. The demonstration allowed the pups to show off a wide range of skills, meeting and greeting the children with a paw-shake, picking up dropped objects and performing other difficult tasks on command.

The pups also taught the kids some new tricks, including the proper way to greet dogs when they’re out and about in the community, an important life skill.

Director of Cronulla Pre-School, Tracey Popple said that it is important for the children to be exposed and informed about other parts of the community.

“We were all very impressed with our visit by Assistance Dogs, Australia – children and staff. The carers were friendly & informative and the dogs were cute, clever, and very well behaved... Thank you to all concerned for a great visit that we’re still talking about today,” Tracey said.

As puppies in training it’s essential for these dogs to cope in all situations. Days like this are vital in the dog’s training program, while giving them an opportunity to begin giving back to the community.
