Sailing Gold Medalist helps the Paw

Elise Rechichi and Archer

Olympic Sailing Gold Medallist, Elise Rechichi, has joined the muttley crew at Assistance Dogs Australia as part of Dogtober!

As Assistance Dogs Australia’s newest ambassador, Elise will help the pups to give freedom and independence to people with physical disabilities, a gift that is worth so much more than buried treasure.

These dogs really do blow the wind out of your sails, performing tasks that are difficult if not impossible for people with physical disabilities to achieve – tasks such as opening and closing doors, retrieving all manner of objects such as keys and mobile phones, pressing the button at the traffic lights, paying the cashier at the shops and even getting bottles of water out of the fridge.

But it takes two years and $25,000 to train an Assistance Dog before they are placed with their recipients free of charge. However with Elise at the helm it seems the pups can expect smoother sailing from now on.

If you live in West Aussie and would like to meet Elise and the pups why not get involved in our Salty Sea Dog’s Dog’s Breakfast on Sunday the 29th November from 9am. Click here to find out more.
