Jibber and Jemima unveiled
In early August staff and volunteers from Assistance Dogs
Australia took two brand new recruits, two golden retriever puppies, to
visit the students and teachers at Junee Public School.
The
two new puppies have just come on board with Assistance Dogs Australia
and will be trained and raised in the community in Wagga Wagga and
Junee Correctional Centre. As one of the most important steps in
starting a puppy’s training journey is to give the pup a name we set
our sights on Junee Public School.
During the
visit the students got to meet and pat the pups, but best of all are
now in the process of running their very own naming competition to name
the little male golden retriever. With the only restrictions being
that the name start with the letter ‘J’ (for Junee of course!) and have
two syllables the kids are loving the challenge. Meryl Termain, Junee
Public School Principal, says “It was lovely to meet ‘our’ puppy and he
was delightful! He and his sister bought big smiles to the faces of
many children. We’d like to thank the organization for the opportunity
given to us to name the puppyâ€. Assistance Dogs Australia is very proud
to be in partnership with Junee Public School and thinks the
relationship has bought new meaning to the school’s banner statement of
‘Working Together’.
We are now proud to add that the lovely names chosen are Jibber and Jemima. They are also joined by Jericho, the black labrador.
All three pups are currently undergoing training in our Pups in Prison Program in Junee Correctional Centre and we wish them, their handlers and all the volunteers all the best in the puppy journey.
