The Jayden and Nakita Story

Assistance Dog, Nakita is dazzling the Koolloos family, especially her recipient Jayden and with more than just her good looks.

“Nakita is very good. She’s part of the family,” Damien, Jayden’s dad said. “It’s brought extra joy to our family. She’s got a beautiful heart and just brings joy to Jayden”.

As a Companion Dog Nakita’s job is to provide Jayden with friendship which is exactly what she has done. They go out together a lot, especially on walks to the dog park where she loves to run around and amuse Jayden. She also loves to meet people and her passion and excitement in greeting new friends has rubbed off a little on Jayden. 

Nakita shadows Jayden around the house, always trying to catch his attention which isn’t hard.

“He [Jayden] just can’t keep his eyes off her” Damien said.

Nakita also makes Jayden and his family feel more secure as she is always there for him, ready to lend a paw.

“He has gone through a rough time lately and she just makes him smile. I think she’s supporting him through it, yeah.”

Nakita is part of a program initiated by Assistance Dogs Australia, a non profit organisation which trains Labradors and Golden Retrievers to enhance the quality of life for people with physical disabilities, giving them freedom and independence.
