Sponsor a Puppy FAQ’s page

What is my sponsorship money used for?

Your sponsorship will directly go towards helping the puppies in the Sponsor a puppy gang. This can include paying for Puppies food, heartworm/flea preventative treatment, vet care, accessories (collars, leads, etc), basic training, training coats and treats, volunteer support, socialisation /field trips, advanced training and dog/recipient training, and puppy hand-over to their new owner.

Can I visit my sponsored pup?

Unfortunately you can’t visit the pups as they are raised by a volunteer raiser in their home. However the pups do attend public events and activities of which you will be informed of. All sponsor a puppy members are invited to Assistance Dogs events which of course gives you the opportunity to meet some or all of the sponsored puppy gang.

Will I be my dog's only sponsor?

The Sponsor a puppy program co-sponsorship scheme with a number of people sponsoring the gang. Your money will go towards proving everything these puppies need to grow in to fully fledged Assistance Dogs.

How often will I hear from my sponsor dog?

The Puppy gang will send you either a postal or email update regularly, this is to let you know how their training is going, what they have learnt recently to telling you all about their favour new task learn or toy! They will also invite you to Assistance Dogs Australia events.

Can I sponsor a dog as a gift for someone else?

Yes of course. If signing up online, please register using your details first and then tick the 'Gift’ box. The gift recipient will then receive all of the sponsorship details in their name.

I want to sponsor a dog but I don't have a bank account. How can I pay?

While Direct Debit is the cheapest and easiest way of making your contributions, you can also pay by cheque, postal order, Paypal or online by credit card.

If you cannot send a cheque, please send your contributions by postal order (available at Australia Post) rather than cash as cash can be lost or stolen in the post. Please be sure to write your name, address and supporter number (if known) on the back of every payment that you send to us so we know that it is from you.

Can I sign up to sponsor a dog online and then send you my cheque or postal order?

Signing up for sponsorship online will require credit card details. If you want to send your contribution by cheque or postal order, please click the following link to download an application form that you can print and send to us with your payment.

Do I need to fill out the payment frequency section on the paper application form even if I do not want to pay by Direct Debit?

Yes. This section tells us how much you wish to pay, and how often we can expect to receive these payments from you.

Do I send the details of my Direct Debit to the bank?

No. If you are completing the Direct Debit form please post it directly to us.

Can i set up a direct debit online?

Not at this present time. To set up a direct debit please fill out the direct debit form or contact us on 1800 688 364 or email  info@assistancedogs.org.au.

Do you send out donation reminders?

We try to contact sponsors we have not heard from but it costs us less in administration costs if you sponsor by credit card or direct debit - this also helps us to plan our funds for the future.

Do I need to give you my telephone number?

You do not have to supply us with your telephone number but by doing so it will allow us to contact you quickly should we have a query about your sponsorship.

Why do I need to give my date of birth?

You don’t need to but if you do it  will help us to know more about you and send you news from Assistance Dogs that will be relevant to you (e.g. we try to exclude children from our appeal mailings).

I am having difficulties setting up my sponsorship.

Please contact the team on 1800 688 364 or email us on info@assistancedogs.org.au and we'll be happy to help you set up your puppy sponsorship.
